Perez to stay in hospital until Monday

Sergio Perez will spend a further night in hospital following his high-speed accident in qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix. The Sauber driver was taken to the Hospital Princess Grace after crashing at the exit of the tunnel and then careering side-on into the barriers that separate the run-off from the track at the chicane. Perez was assessed yesterday and diagnosed with only a bruised thigh and a concussion.

Study: Building Roads to Cure Congestion Is an Exercise in Futility

We hear it all the time: The road lobby insists that the only way to reduce mind-numbing traffic congestion on the roads they built is to build new roads. Federal funding gives huge blank checks to state DOTs, which tend to prioritize road building over transit, bridge maintenance or anything else. But mounting evidence suggests [...]

New York Post Bike Bile: Deliberate Lies or Pure Ineptitude?

It’s getting to the point — probably well past the point, actually — where the non-stop cyclist hate spewing from the New York Post has attained a level of self-parody. Power relieved to keep points lead

Will Power said the fact that he retained his IndyCar Series points lead was the only comfort he could take from a poor Indianapolis 500 for the Penske team. The championship leader finished only 14th in the series' premier race, having fallen to the tail of the field when he left his first pitstop with his left rear wheel not properly attached. As well as forcing him to do a lap on three wheels under yellow, the incident also caused brake damage that needed repairs.

Boullier: Engine equivalency unworkable

Renault team principal Eric Boullier thinks that the idea of having an engine equivalency formula in 2013 - with the current V8s running alongside the new 1.6-litre four-cylinder engines for one season ? would be unworkable. With a number of F1's manufacturers unhappy about the cost implications of switching to the new smaller engines in 2013, FIA president Jean Todt told them in Spain last weekend that he would be willing to offer a compromise of allowing a year's grace for the current power plants. But with tremendous complications from trying to ensure that both types of engines would perform the same, as well as there being little cost saving in the move, there has been some scepticism that the plan could be put into place.

Conway, Hunter-Reay miss the cut

Mike Conway and Ryan Hunter-Reay both failed to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 as Danica Patrick, Alex Lloyd and Marco Andretti snuck in at the end of a dramatic Bump Day. Patrick had looked set to miss out earlier in the day as rain arrived before she can even make a qualifying attempt. But the weather relented and when the track reopened for a final hour, Patrick swiftly got herself onto the grid with a run good enough for 26th place.

Renault aims to fight for win in Monaco

Renault boss Eric Boullier says his team is setting its sights on taking the fight to Red Bull Racing in this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix. At Monaco last year, Robert Kubica put his Renault on the front row of the grid and battled hard for a podium finish with Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel. And well aware that the R31 has similar strengths to last year's car, Boullier says Renault's ambitions are being raised for the Monaco weekend

Patrick at risk as rain resumes

A second rain shower on Indianapolis 500 Bump Day has left Danica Patrick in danger of falling to make the field for the race. The track dried sufficiently for 45 minutes of qualifying this afternoon following the earlier storm, but rain returned just before Patrick was due to make what would have been her first qualifying effort of the day. There are two and a half hours to go before Bump Day ends, and it is thought unlikely that conditions will be good enough for any track action for at least the next hour.

FIA discussing Ferrari wing legality

The FIA is in talks with Ferrari to discuss whether or not the team can continue to use its new rear wing for the remainder of the Spanish Grand Prix weekend. The revised rear wing that ran in Friday practice features a higher than normal Gurney-flap on the rear - which Ferrari has managed to introduce through an interpretation of the slot-gap separator regulations. Spain will be ?key test? for new rules

This weekend's Spanish Grand Prix will be the litmus test for Formula 1's 2011 regulations, reckons Williams technical director Sam Michael, with the Circuit de Catalunya posing the toughest challenge yet for moveable wings and Pirelli's tyre plans. The Barcelona circuit has traditionally produced processional racing, with its long high-speed corners and lack of heavy braking zones making it very difficult for drivers to overtake their rivals. But with the mixture of F1's Drag Reduction System (DRS) and Pirelli's push for multi-stop races having delivered a huge increase in overtaking opportunities, there is a good chance that this year's Spanish GP will deliver more excitement.
