Jules Bianchi came out on top in a thrilling scrap with Christian Vietoris to take his first GP2 win of the season at Silverstone. ART driver Bianchi cruised into a comfortable lead once the race got underway in wet conditions after three laps behind the safety car. Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali is optimistic that a settlement will be achieved in the row over off-throttle exhaust blowing that has dominated the British Grand Prix weekend. The Italian team and Sauber - which uses Ferrari engines - were the only two outfits which refused to agree to the FIA's offer to return to the pre-Silverstone rules situation when it was discussed in a meeting this morning. Renault could drop forward exhausts
Renault is considering abandoning its forward-facing exhaust concept in the wake of the clampdown on blown diffuser use, AUTOSPORT has learned. The Enstone-based outfit is unsure about how big an impact the ban on off-throttle use of blown diffusers will have on its car - with the R31 having been built around the forward exhaust concept. But amid worries the regulation clarification could dramatically hurt its form, Renault has designed and built a more traditional rearward exhaust layout - which it tried out during a recent straight-line test at Duxford.

Fresh off wins at Pocono and Michigan, Steve Sheehan grabbed the pole at The Magic Mile but fell just short in his quest for three wins in a row as JR Motorsports teammate Derek Wood claimed a hotly-contested battle for the victory. McLaren expects to return to form at the British Grand Prix this weekend, having labelled its downturn in Valencia as a 'blip'. Managing Director Jonathan Neale said lessons had already been learned from the European Grand Prix, where McLaren found itself behind both Red Bull and Ferrari in the pecking order - with Lewis Hamilton finishing fourth and Jenson Button sixth. Huff hunts down Muller for victory
Rob Huff has taken a dramatic win in the second World Touring Car race around the streets of Porto after closing down a large gap to pass Chevrolet team-mate Yvan Muller. Muller had taken the lead from polesitter Stefano d'Aste on lap three and set about building an advantage while Huff tried to find his own way past the Wiechers-Sport BMW. He got past a lap later, however by then Muller was already 2.5 seconds down the road

Lamborghinis dominate first race
Markus Winkelhock and Marc Basseng moved into the GT1 World Championship points lead by taking a comfortable win in the Navarra qualifying race. Basseng had followed the sister All-Inkl Lamborghini of Nicky Pastorelli in the early stages, relentlessly looking for opportunities to pass his team-mate. He had to wait until the pitstops, when coming in immediately to hand over to Winkelhock worked perfectly, with a quick out-lap for the erstwhile DTM racer putting him into the lead ahead of Pastorelli's partner Dominik Schwager when the second Lamborghini pitted a lap later.

Marquez takes Moto2 pole in rain
Marc Marquez took his second Moto2 pole position in a hard-fought wet qualifying at Mugello. The track was never dry enough for slicks, but did get increasingly quick as the session progressed, which meant a constant stream of changes at the front in the final stages. Marquez hit the front in the closing minutes, was usurped by Alex de Angelis, and then fought back with a 2m05.312s right at the end to take pole by half a second

Vanthoor takes first win in epic race
Laurens Vanthoor overcame a clash with Signature team-mate Daniel Abt to take his maiden F3 Euro Series victory in a frantic wet/dry race at the Norisring. Belgian Vanthoor was as much as 41 seconds adrift of the lead around half distance, as Roberto Merhi (Prema) and Marco Wittmann (Signature) charged off into the distance on wet tyres while the track was still damp. Most of the field had initially opted for wets on the grid, but everyone except Merhi, Wittmann, Carlos Munoz and Sandro Zeller changed to slicks before the start.

Rossi hoped for better at Mugello
Valentino Rossi admitted after qualifying 12th at Mugello that he had hoped Ducati's problems would be less apparent at its home track. With Rossi a seven-time winner at the circuit in MotoGP and Ducati having tested its 2012 bike - an 800cc version of which Rossi is now using - at the track, there had been optimism that this weekend would see an upturn in Ducati's fortunes. Gurney: DeltaWing progressing well
American motorsport legend Dan Gurney believes the DeltaWing concept will prove itself after gaining the 56th entry to next year's Le Mans 24 Hours, and that progress is already being made on the project. Gurney's All American Racers concern is building the prototype, which was originally designed by Ben Bowlby to be used in the new 2012 IndyCar package. Pirelli believes that even a more aggressive choice of tyres for the European Grand Prix may not have been enough to help make the Valencia race a thriller.
